The first part of this book includes an introduction to biofeedback, behavioral therapy, and behavioral medicine, and is very easy to read for those not versed in these subjects. The second part of the book concerns a review of the neurophysiology of nociception with a section devoted to the most recent theories of how the body modulates and inhibits pain perception which is so important to the basic thesis of the book-that self-regulation of pain states is not only possible but preferable, in many cases.
