Data was collected regarding cancer diagnosis, clinical features, presence of long term venous access devices (VAD), and antibiotic sensitivity. All blood cultures after February 2005 were tested on the BACTEC system. Antibiotic sensitivity testing was done by the Kirby Bauers disc diffusion method. Results were analysed as per the CLSI guidelines. Follow-up blood cultures after antibiotics were excluded from analysis. Results. Data regarding 240 samples was available for analysis (ALL-130, AML-52, NHL-27, solid tumours-21). 216 samples were collected during febrile episodes (neutropenic fever in 178), while rest were surveillance cultures collected after VAD insertion.
